In the next few decades entitlements are going to exceed 100% of government revenue. No candidate is seriously discussing reforming and/or ultimately dismantling these programs. One party wants to cut projected increases and another party wants to tax more money from people, but these are not long term solutions to the unsustainable programs. Our national debt is 16 trillion dollars with no signs of slowing down at all. I don’t think people understand how serious the situation really is. Greece and Spain are a preview of what’s to come in America. The State cannot provide what it does not take from others. Sooner or later someone has to pay for all these “free” things we get from government. There are people out there that are in for a rude awakening. When the dollar crisis comes there will be no social safety net to speak of. The sacred cows of Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid will be thrown out by the laws of math before the politicians do anything substantive to them.
This post is really random and unorganized but it’s just what I’ve been thinking about. Everyone gets so hung up about Big Bird and Pell Grants and they don’t even bat an eye at $100 trillion+ in unfunded liabilities. No one cares that the Federal Reserve has created trillions of new dollars out of thin air in just the last ten years. No one cares that we are borrowing money at record rates just to fund unjustifiable wars of aggression in the middle east. Fuck politics man.
