I think i’m going to go ahead and just say that normally this guy at least makes me chuckle with his political cartoons. Today is not one of those days. For me, the whole “red bull” part of this jump is actually a good/impressive thing. Yes, the whole thing may have been a little silly in concept (let’s send a guy to jump from the atmosphere and see if he can go faster than sound) but the fact of the matter was that a whole lot of privately funded science went into it (the guy actually went to the upper edge of the earth’s atmosphere, jumped, broke the sound barrier and survived). I think that this has been an excellent demonstration that space (near space in this case) travel and technology can be successfully researched and put into production by the private sector. So yes, was sad when NASA’s space shuttle program was shut down, but maybe we’ll see more exploration from private companies soon. In summary, space exploration=cool regardless of where the money is coming from.
And people aren’t stolen from in order to fund it!
