False. Obama has
- lied to the American people during his campaign about bringing the troops home.
- created a kill list.
- assassinated American citizens.
- destroyed the sovereignty of multiple nations.
- followed George Bush’s timeline on Iraq.
- expanded the war in Afghanistan.
- unconstitutionally bombed Libya, Pakistan, and multiple other countries.
- not ruled out the use of force against Iran.
Obama is anti-war? No.
The democrat party is anti-war? Well they support Obama so…no.
Leftists make me laugh when they say only republicans love war; Obama loves war more than Bush did.
Screw both warmongering parties; vote Libertarian.
The Libertarian candidate supports “humanitarian wars.”
Screw all political parties; don’t vote.
Gary Johnson annoys the shit out of me.
He was talking about genocide and to be quite honest diplomacy doesn’t actually work in that regard as there factors beyond trade and diplomatic talks that sometimes do nothing to dissuade barbarism.
It’s not like he could say something that historically is not really supported.
It’s not really a glowing support of military intervention, either. He isn’t singing about bombing Iran. If you don’t participate in the political system of the United States, no reform will take place.
This is the except ineptitude that classical liberals had in Germany before the rise of militarism and Nazism, Italy before the rise of fascism, and in Japan before the military ceased power. That didn’t turn out so well, either. Political apathy allows for despotism to continue. Anarchists and libertarians abandoning the only possible means of change is bad and stupid choice leaving only the two major parties to run the show.
Sorry, for the extreme example. But come on, guys.
We have to start somewhere. Gary Johnson is the best option we have to truly shake up the two-party system. Otherwise it’s just Obamney ‘12.
The rise of Naziism in Germany was a direct result of the treatment of the Germans after WWI. There’s a non-interventionist argument to be made that Hitler would never have risen to power if the Germans hadn’t been treated so unfairly. Also, it was the major classical liberal thinkers of the 20th century that literally fled Naziism in order to continue their teachings. So maybe classical liberalism is onto something when they reject the initiation of force against a nation that has not aggressed against us.
You guys can remain engaged in the political system if you’re okay with having the blood of innocent people on your hands. Gary Johnson wont rule out our drone campaign and thinks Gitmo should remain open (although he is against indefinite detention) and he supports committing our tax dollars and soldiers to foreign disputes that do not affect us. That isn’t very libertarian if you ask me.
I’ll take part in the political process by abstaining from endorsing these actions. That’s the only way to keep a clean conscience and to remain as morally and philosophically pure as I can. By voting you are sending the signal that you tolerate the lesser of two (or three) evils. By not voting you send the message that they do not have your support and they are not representatives of you.
You are never going to get rid of the state by working within the process. That famous quote “If voting changed anything they’d make it illegal” comes to mind. Instead, work to educate people why these policies are wrong. Teach the non-aggression principle, spread the ideas of self-ownership, encourage voluntary, peaceful coexistence. Calling for more war will not put an end to violence.
